Success on non-enforcement of Russian court rulings

Motieka & Audzevičius’ Dispute Resolution team won a complex dispute before the Court of Appeal of Lithuania regarding the recognition and enforcement of Russian Federation court rulings in the Republic of Lithuania.

The dispute arose over the award of almost 1 million EUR adopted by Russian courts.

The creditor sought to recognize and enforce the Russian court rulings in Lithuania against our client (natural person). After many rounds of submissions and even with the help of handwriting experts, our firm managed to convince the Lithuanian Court of Appeal that our client was not properly informed about the Russian court proceedings.

We achieved victory through the argument that the obligation of a court to inform a person under the bilateral treaty on legal assistance continues even when such a person has a duly authorized representative in local courts.
