The first ever Baltic law firm named among the top 100 strongest in the world

Motieka & Audzevičius has been named among the global leaders in arbitration in the Global Arbitration Review (GAR) survey. This is the first case in history as a Baltic law firm gets recognised among the global arbitration leaders.

Founding partner Kazimieras Motieka has been practicing law since 1959 – making Motieka & Audzevičius one of the longest operating law firms in Lithuania. Following the arrival in 2003 of Ramūnas Audzevičius – now co-head of dispute resolution practice – the firm was renamed and the department began focusing on disputes arising out of foreign investment in new economies in the Baltic and CIS countries.

The union was a success – the arbitration department at Motieka & Audzevičius is now recognised as the leading practice in the Baltic and CIS countries. The other dispute resolution co-head is Jovitas Elzbergas, who specialises in real estate and construction disputes. Having its corporate and M&A law practice headed by partner Giedrius Kolesnikovas, today Motieka & Audzevicius in cooperation with pan-Baltic partnership with Finnish Hedman Partners and Latvia’s Skrastins & Dzenis is able to render a full range of integrated services to cross-border clients in a wider area of practices.

Ramūnas Audzevičius, the Partner at Motieka & Audzevicius and co-Head of the dispute resolution practice,  says that recognition is especially important in times when arbitrations are becoming increasingly more common as the preferred method of dispute resolution over classic litigation not only in the region, but also globally. “Being a specialised boutique, we are honoured to be recognised among the truly globally leading companies of the highest standards”, comments Mr. Audzevicius.

Each year, the Global Arbitration Review conducts surveys, researches, and firm audits to determine the top 100 firms involved in arbitration around the world.  The criteria used to develop the list are pending cases, merits hearings completed in the last two years, jurisdictional hearings completed in two years, bet-the-company hearings.
