Represented the biggest financial institution in the Russian Federation

Our team has represented the biggest financial institution in the Russian Federation. The case concerned compensation of damage of more than 2.1 million EUR. The claimant had demanded the sum in damages because of the actions executed in the Russian Federation by one of the financial institution’s employees.  After an unsuccessful process in the Russian courts the claimant decided to bring the claim in the Lithuanian jurisdiction.

It is only on rare occasions that cases can be won on the basis of jurisdiction. However, the team presented unique and strong arguments using domestic and foreign law practice and legal base, which proved that the Lithuanian courts do not have a right to examine the case.

Vilnius regional court has approved our team’s arguments regarding jurisdiction and has decided not to examine the case. This is an important precedent for the choosing of a proper court to examine a claim for damages when the action which caused damage was executed in the Russian Federation.
