International economy sanctions: structure and disputes

Dispute resolution in Lithuania

Senior associate Rimantas Daujotas contributed an article “International economy sanctions. Structure and disputes”.

Usually, the national government of foreign countries and multifunctional institutions make international economy sanctions in the aim of changing national and danger – making independent individuals strategical decisions. Critics say that international sanctions are frequently reasonless and rarely change the behavior of the target, but the supporters of the economy sanctions convince that in the last year they became more effective and still are very important in foreign politics.

Because of this reason economy sanctions are applied more often by the international community and the aim of the article is to sum up what are they, how are they normatively organized and what kind of disputes appear because of the international economy sanctions.
