Media dispute

The lawyers of our firm represented the largest gas supplier in Lithuania against one of the major TV commercial channels in a dispute at the Journalists and Publishers Ethics Commission regarding the channel’s report on the compensation scheme for the construction of gas pipelines.

Our team argued that the TV channel had failed to indicate the purpose of the compensation addressed to the Lithuanian rural community. The report suggested that the gas supplier had addressed compensation to the community with the purpose of resisting efforts by an international energy company’s investments into shale gas. However, the compensations had been paid with the intention of implementing the National Energy Strategy.

The Journalists and Publishers Ethics Commission ruled in favour of the client and stated that the report had been prepared in an unprofessional manner.
